ATA Certification Program Update

First Keyboarded Exam Sitting Scheduled

The American Translators Association will be offering its initial keyboarded exam sitting on Thursday, January 17, at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Registration for this exam sitting will end at 11:00 a.m. (ET) on January 7, 2008.

Registration Details

This will be a small sitting with a maximum capacity of 20 candidates so it is important to get your registration in early. Registration is first come/first served.

Please handwrite the exam site "Fairfax, VA" on your exam registration form and include your cell phone number along with your regular contact information. We may need to contact you about specific technical information. For the exam registration form, click Upcoming ATA Certification Exam Sittings and Registration Form.

Additional Keyboarded Exam Information

We consider the keyboarding of exams a pilot project this first year. The software is new and the potential for problems is always higher with a new project. For that reason hard copies of exams will be available should any technical problems arise. Candidates can handwrite the exam if the technical problem cannot be fixed.

As for reference materials, candidates may only use printed dictionaries and reference books at these initial sittings. No electronic devices and no access to online dictionaries or websites will be allowed.

2008 ATA Certification Exam Schedule

All other exam sittings now listed on the registration form will be the current handwritten exams. We plan to schedule some additional keyboarded exams later in 2008. For additional information about the ATA Certification Program, see A Guide to ATA Certification.
