Terminology Committee

Committee Objective

The use of terms in specific context for a specific meaning is the basis for translation and interpreting. The Terminology Committee was established to provide a specialized forum within ATA for terminological activities.

The Terminology Committee is asked to do the following:

• gather and analyze publications dealing with terminology principles, standards, and specialized vocabularies;
• collect and disseminate information concerning terminology data banks and computer-aided terminology processing;
• organize and sponsor technical presentations on terminology;
• organize working groups to carry out terminology research;
• recommend to the Board of Directors the initiation of terminology-oriented projects deemed beneficial to the interests of ATA members; and
• work with other committees and organizations in promoting terminology programs.
