About the Program
In our rapidly evolving cross-cultural society, the trained interpreter plays an integral role on the healthcare provider team. This environment demands that the interpreter and the providers develop an ongoing partnership to best serve the needs of LEP patients.
The focus of our 2007 UMTIA-HCMC Conference is the education and preparation required to make this kind of partnership work. Panel sessions on Day 1 of the conference will be augmented by intensive seminars and workshops on Day 2. The individual presentations, panel discussions, workshop group findings, and training sessions will address many areas and facets of professional interpreting, including:
- Professional Medical Interpretation: A Cheap Solution to the Expensive Problem
of Language Barriers in Health Care - Medical Care Expectations in the Limited English Proficient Patient
- The Role of the Interpreter as a Part of the Medical Team: Debriefing
- The Role of the Interpreter: Code of Ethics, Quality of Care, and Liability
- Liability and Interpreter Roles: Legal Perspective
- Considerations for Crossing the Interpreter-to-Translator in the Medical Field
- Interpreting Psychotherapy: Mental Health Provider And Interpreter Perspectives
