About the Speakers

Virginia Benmaman, Ph.D., holds the title of Distinguished Professor Emeritus and is the Director of the Master of Arts Program in Bilingual Legal Interpreting at the Graduate School of the College of Charleston, South Carolina. She has been a federally certified court interpreter since 1981 and was certified by the American Translators Association (ATA) in 1988 for Spanish>English translation.

Sara M. Garcia-Rangel is presently the supervisory interpreter for the United States District Court of New Jersey. Prior to this position, she worked in the Southern District of New York, where she received an award from the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Garcia-Rangel is also a consultant to the Administrative Office of the New Jersey Courts and an adjunct professor at New York University in the Spanish-English Court Interpreter Certificate Program.
