About the Program
- What Do Clients Want (Brenda Sprague, Marc Fallow)
Join presenter Brenda Sprague for this discussion of Federal Government careers that utilize language skills and alternatives to traditional civil service positions. Learn how to prepare for a career in government, how to find out about government jobs, and how to apply for them.
Co-presenter Marc Fallow's presentation will examine the Department of State's use of consecutive and seminar interpreters, emphasizing interpreting competence, clear communication, and the public relations angle of interpreting. Includes a mini-interpreting exercise involving the entire audience.
- Extreme Translation Workshop (Joe Mazza)
This workshop is a highly interactive simulation of the life of a translator in a busy translation firm. Participants will be divided into teams representing rival translation firms. Each team will be given
an assignment and a budget and asked to provide translations in as many languages as possible.
Refreshments will be served in the morning and during the lunch break to give attendees a chance to network. For full program details, click on "Like a True Diplomat: Language Services at the U.S. Department of State" or visit the NCATA Website.
