ATA Division Newsletter: Interpreters Division Summer 2007 Newsletter Now Online
The Interpreters Voice Summer 2007
The Summer 2007 edition of The Interpreters Voice is now available online. This issue includes not only a look back at last year's ATA Conference and ID Annual Meeting but also a link to information about this year's Conference. Look out, San Francisco, here we come!
This time around, the volunteers at The Voice are excited to bring you several new contributors offering their personal -- and unique -- perspectives, including the view from inside an advanced-level conference interpreting seminar and a reality check on becoming an interpreter on the fly. You'll also find a legislative update from California and the story behind the Consortium for State Court Interpreter Certification. We hope you will enjoy this issue.
As always, we encourage your contributions to the newsletter. This is your forum for sharing your expertise and for promoting our profession. We have already started work on the next issue, so send in your articles or news as soon as possible.
And finally, we'd like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a fun and happy summer!
Giovanna Lester, ID Administrator
Katharine Allen, ID Assistant Administrator

History of the Interpreters Division
The Interpreters Division was established in 1998 to serve ATA interpreting professionals working in many different language combinations and in many specialty areas, including medical, community, and court interpreting. It is that kind of diversity that has made the Interpreters Division a unique and special association for its interpreter members, and the division has grown rapidly since its organization. Currently, there are 2,795 members in the division.
The objectives of the Interpreters Division include offering a forum for discussion of interpreting issues and providing education and information to assist members in their profession. While meeting these goals, the division has also championed for recognition of interpreting as a profession and a career.
