ATA Division Elections: Literary Division Call for Nominations
The Literary Division (LD) is pleased to call for nominations from its membership for the following leadership positions:
Administrator (2-year term)
Assistant Administrator (2-year term)
Election of these officers is held every two years in accordance with our LD bylaws. The results of the election will be announced at the LD Annual Meeting, which will be held during the ATA 48th Annual Conference in San Francisco, California, October 31- November 3, 2007.
Call for Literary Division Nominating Committee
The LD is also seeking three Division members to serve on its Nominating Committee. The Committee will assist in organizing the 2007 elections. Duties include seeking qualified candidates for office; determining the eligibility of candidates; contacting individuals who are nominated; and submitting a Nominating Committee Report.
For more information or to participate in this year's election process, please contact LD Administrator Enrica Ardemagni.
What are the responsibilities of division officers?
The LD Administrator and Assistant Administrator work together with other volunteer members to prepare the Division newsletter and recruit literary translators to present for the ATA Annual Conference.
Officers must be members of the Literary Division as well as voting members of the Association — that is, either an Active or Corresponding ATA member. To learn more about individual officer duties, click on ATA Division Leadership Responsibilities.
Why volunteer to become a division leader?
Serving in a division leadership role provides enormous professional and personal opportunity. In fact, division officers frequently find themselves becoming more successful in their own careers as they develop additional skills, meet new colleagues, and make useful business connections.
Who can be a candidate?
A qualified candidate must be a voting member of ATA as well as a member of the Literary Division. But what if a potential candidate is not yet an Active or Corresponding member? Ask them to consider becoming a voting member of the Association through the ATA Membership Review Process.
If you plan to put a name forward for a nomination, it would be helpful if you could contact the potential nominee first and tell them of your intention. Let them know that a nomination does not guarantee a formal invitation to run for office. Remember that LD officers serve on a volunteer basis; please do not nominate colleagues who express serious concerns about service or who have conflicting priorities.
How do you nominate a candidate?
Your assistance in helping the LD Nominating Committee identify interested, capable colleagues is crucial to the election process and to the Division. Any division member may make a nomination, and self-nominations are also welcome.
To nominate a candidate for office, contact Enrica Ardemagni or complete and submit the Literary Division Nomination Form. The form may be faxed to ATA Headquarters at (703) 683-6122 or mailed to ATA Headquarters, Attn Jamie Padula, American Translators Association, 225 Reinekers Lane, Suite 590, Alexandria, Virginia 22314.
Literary Division Election Schedule
Following the publication of the slate of candidates to the LD membership, there is a 30-day window of time in which written petitions from additional candidates are accepted. Each candidate's petition to be added to the ballot must be accompanied by signatures of 15 LD members in good standing.
In the case of an uncontested election, Division officers are declared by acclamation. In the case of a contested election, ballots will be mailed to LD members no later than September 22 and must be returned to ATA Headquarters by October 27.

Why get involved?
We hope you will take this opportunity to consider stepping forward as a volunteer during the coming year – if not as a candidate for office, then perhaps as a mentor to a new member or a contributor to our upcoming division newsletter. There are many ways to be involved, and volunteering is a wonderful way to not only share your experience but also to expand your network of contacts.
As always, your support of the Literary Division and ATA is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
