Elections 2008

ATA's 15 professional-interest Divisions provide specialty- and language-specific information to assist their members in today's competitive marketplace. They offer a wide variety of benefits and services, all organized by volunteers.

What are division elections?

Each ATA Division is led by an Administrator and Assistant Administrator. Some Divisions also have a Secretary and/or Treasurer. Election of these officers is held every two years in accordance with ATA and Division Bylaws, and the results of these elections are announced during the ATA Annual Conference.

Elected Division officers must be (a) members of the Division, and (b) voting members of ATA (Active or Corresponding). Some Division Bylaws also have restrictions on how many consecutive terms a member may serve.

While job duties may vary slightly from Division to Division, the officers are primarily responsible for building a team of volunteer members to prepare a quarterly newsletter, recruit presenters for the ATA Annual Conference, submit content for the group's website, and organize the Division's annual networking event. What Divisions are holding election in 2008?

Some ATA Divisions hold elections in even years, others in odd years. Listed below you'll find the Divisions holding elections this year and their individual nomination forms.

Additional nominations

Additional candidates may now be added to the ballot. The nomination of each additional candidate must be supported by a petition endorsed by 15 members of the Division. A petition form can be obtained from ATA Headquarters by contacting Jamie Padula at (703) 683-6100, extension 3017.

Election procedures

For contested elections, voting will be conducted by ballot. Ballots will be mailed to members on Thursday, October 15, 2008. Ballots must be returned to the Division's Inspector of Elections, c/o ATA Headquarters, by October 31, 2008. Faxed ballots will be accepted.

For elections that are not contested, officers will be declared by acclamation at each Division's business meeting during the ATA Annual Conference.

Announcement of election results

The newly elected Division officers will be announced at the 2008 Division Annual Meetings in Orlando, Florida, during ATA's 49th Annual Conference (November 5-8, 2008).
