ATA 2018 Elections: Announcement of Candidates

ATA will hold its regularly scheduled election at the 2018 ATA Annual Conference in New Orleans, LA to elect three directors (three-year terms) and one director (one-year term).

Further nominations, supported by a nominee's written acceptance statement and a petition signed by at least 60 voting members, must be received by June 1. Acceptance statements and petitions should be submitted to the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee Chair David Rumsey.

Candidate statements and photos of the candidates will appear in the September/October issue of The ATA Chronicle and on ATA’s website. 

The candidates proposed by the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee are:

Director (three positions, three-year terms)

  • Diego Mansilla
  • Meghan McCallum
  • Tianlu Redmon
  • Kyle Vraa

Director (one position, one-year term)

  • Tony Guerra

Proposed ATA Bylaws Revision 2018

In addition to electing Board directors, Voting Members will also decide on a proposed bylaws revision.

The change is intended to expand voting rights to members who have met the requirements for ATA's Credentialed Interpreter (CI) designation. Click to learn more about ATA's CI designation.

Proposed: That Article III, Section 2 a. of the Bylaws be amended as follows: “1) Any person who (a) is professionally engaged in translating, interpreting, or closely related work, (b) is a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, and (c) meets one of the following criteria: (i) has passed a certification examination administered by the Association, or (ii) has been granted Credentialed Interpreter status by the Association, or (iii) has achieved demonstrable professional status as determined by peer evaluation, is eligible for Active membership.”

ATA’s bylaws may be altered, amended, or repealed by a two-thirds vote of the Voting Members.

ATA held its regularly scheduled election at the upcoming 2017 ATA Annual Conference (October 25-28) in Washington, DC to elect three directors. Jim Lochrie served as the Inspector of Elections. President-elect, secretary, and treasurer (each a two-year term) and three directors (each a three-year term) were elected.

ATA held its regularly scheduled election at the upcoming 2016 ATA Annual Conference (November 2-5) in San Francisco to elect three directors. There will also be a special election for secretary for a one-year term to complete Rudy Heller's term.

ATA held its regularly scheduled elections at the Annual Meeting of Voting Members on Thursday, November 5, 2015. The meeting took place during ATA's 56th Annual Conference in Miami, Florida (November 4-7). Jim Lochrie served as the Inspector of Elections. President-elect, secretary, and treasurer (each a two-year term) and three directors (each a three-year term) were elected.

ATA held its regularly scheduled elections at the Annual Meeting of Voting Members on Thursday, November 6, 2014. The meeting took place at ATA's 55th Annual Conference in Chicago, Illinois (November 5-8, 2014). Jim Lochrie served as the Inspector of Elections. Three Directors (each a three-year term) were elected.
