Tick Tock, Tick Tock
Time is running out to renew your ATA membership for 2009.
Your ATA membership gives you access to benefits and services tailored to support translators and interpreters. This has never been more important than in today’s competitive marketplace.
We’d also like to take this opportunity to remind you that payment
of your 2009 ATA membership dues may qualify as a business
expense. Renew by December 31 to take advantage of this
deduction on your 2008 tax return.
To renew now, see the 2009 ATA Membership Renewal Form online.
Interpreting–getting it right
A companion piece to the client education brochure Translation–getting it right is in the works, this time aimed at clients and potential users of interpreting services.
As with any writing project of this type, there is a danger of missing the forest for the trees – thus leaving out essential information. That's why we are asking interpreters, whether ATA members or not, to review a first draft of the brochure and send in their feedback.
What you think is important. Click ATA Interpreting Brochure to review now. All comments will be carefully considered for the next draft of Interpreting–getting it right.
The review period ends Friday, January 2, 2009. Email your comments to int_brochure@atanet.org.
ATA Helps Lift Ski Mask Ban
In late November, ATA President Jiri Stejskal wrote Defense Secretary Robert Gates to oppose the prohibition on Iraqi interpreters wearing ski masks when they worked with U.S. troops. The masks are worn by the interpreters to protect their identities.
On December 6, the BBC reported that the Pentagon had rescinded the ban.
