Translating an English-language Mutual Fund Prospectus into French

• The difficulties related to the translation of a mutual fund prospectus are present on at least two levels: terminology and syntax. Based on the comparison of several English-language documents and their translation into French, this paper seeks to present a summary of the main problems that may be encountered in the translation process itself. Different ways of translating some of the standard language involved in this type of document will be examined. A few representative paragraphs will be distributed to the participants for a short translation group exercise and discussion.
