Economics for Portuguese-to-English Translators

Based on a Portuguese- language source text on Latin America, this lecture will explore the basics of economics, with emphasis on meaning and proper usage in English and Portuguese. The main topics covered will be real GDP growth, current account balance, capital flows, foreign exchange, international reserves, interest rates, inflation and unemployment, macroeconomic stability and structural reform.
Background information and comparative statistics will be given to highlight the significance of the terms in the context of Brazil and its development. All the terms discussed will be listed in a Portuguese-English glossary, with definitions specifically tailored to the needs of translators.
