Special Terminology Transfer into Russian--Burden, Challenge or "Just-leave-it-as-is"
Translation of highly specialized finance and banking-related materials into languages of emerging market countries (e.g., Russian) frequently requires a translator to cope with the "lack of reality" problem, i.e., when a concept expressed by an English term is merely absent in the respective industry of the target language. Several ways of resolving this issue are discussed, including transliteration, transposition, conceptual and descriptive rendering, etc. using English-to-Russian translations of petroleum contracts. Examples are based on the English-Russian Terminology Transfer in Oil and Gas Contracts glossary to be published.
