Educational Interpreting—An Emerging Specialization

February 27, 2020

Interpreters have been working in schools for years with little acknowledgment of the complex skills needed to do the job. Now the field of educational interpreting is finally gaining recognition as a specialty—and a career worth considering!

What do educational interpreters do?

Educational interpreters work in a range of settings, from conference-style public board meetings and educational events to legal disciplinary hearings to school press conferences to many special education arenas.

Why is educational interpreting a specialty?

Educational interpreters use skill sets every bit as complicated and nuanced as those used by mental health, workers’ comp, court, and conference interpreters.

Why attend this webinar?

Attend this webinar to learn how to find work in the field as a freelancer or employee, what skills interpreters in this specialty need to have, and why our profession needs to step up, make space, and provide concrete resources for educational interpreters.
