Training Army Cadets for Medical Missions

My company, Language Link Corporation, won a contract with the Army in September of 2015. Under the contract, we provided administrative and educational support to a program that sends Army cadets overseas during the summer. Our job was to teach them cultural acuity concepts in a hands on environment.

My workshop was specifically tailored to cadets headed to assist with a medical mission in a Spanish-speaking country. So, I focused on medical terminology in Spanish, the pitfalls involved with false cognates in a medical setting, and regional definitions for the same word or phrase.

All in all, the cadets were very respectful and eager to to improve their language skills in order to better serve the communities they were going to assist. It was a wonderful opportunity, and I look forward to doing it again.
