How to Work with SDLXTM Translation Suite
(W, 9am-12noon)—Piedmont

Multilingual Desktop Management, a division of SDL International, Inc. and Iverson Language Associates, Inc. are pleased to present a training workshop featuring SDLX Translation Suite. This workshop will offer participants a hands-on opportunity to create projects for translation using SDLX Translation Suite and convert them back to their original formats. The presentation will feature valuable tips for translating in the Edit Module, essential lessons on analyzing files, practical experience in applying the Translation Memory to your files, useful skills in aligning Legacy Material, and how to maintain your Translation Memory.

Keith Laska is the U.S. Business Development Manager for Multilingual Desktop Management, a division of SDL International that focuses on globalization productivity solutions for corporations, localization service providers, and professional translators. He is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and cultivated his career in languages by studying French and Political Science at the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France. From his experience as a project manager and having worked extensively with and trained many companies in globalization productivity tools over the past few years, Keith brings with him an in-depth knowledge of the process involved with successfully incorporating these tools into new and existing multilingual workflow processes.

Hélène Wimmerlin is a French native with an MA in Specialized Translation from the Université des Sciences Humaines de Strasbourg and was the first graduate of the Master’s degree program in translation at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is currently Senior Project Manager at Iverson Language Associates, Inc. and Associate Lecturer in the translation program of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

International Writers' Group in association with Atril Software is pleased to offer a full-day Déjà Vu X training session to be conducted by Dr. Jost Zetzsche, a highly acclaimed Déjà Vu training expert and a long-time user of Déjà Vu and other computer-aided translation tools. The training will include: an introduction into the completely new Déjà Vu X interface; creating and completing a translation project; creating and maintaining translation memories and terminology databases; interfacing with other translation memory products; complex file formats (HTML, XML, FrameMaker); and project workflow issues. There will be ample time for questions about Déjà Vu X as well.

Please request information about the system requirements that must be met, and plan to be there at least 30 minutes before the start of the training session. If you cannot bring your own computers, arrangements for rental can be made at the time of registration for approximately $100.

Jost Zetzsche is an ATA-accredited (English>German) translator, a consultant in the field of localization, and a trainer for translation technology. A native of Hamburg, Germany, he earned a Ph.D. in the field of Chinese history and linguistics from the University of Hamburg in 1996. His dissertation and most of his numerous publications deal with the history of translation in China. In 1999, he co-founded International Writers' Group, an Oregon-based company that specializes in writing and editing services, English to German translation, and localization consulting and writing.
