FAQ: Customs and Shipping
Frequently Asked Questions from Exhibitors

ATA has contracted with GES Canada to assist exhibitors with customs and shipping for the 45th Annual Conference in Toronto, Canada and we want to assure you that your participation will be affordable.

Q How much can I expect to pay in customs fees?
A If using GES, the ATA show decorator/freight handler, you can expect to pay from $500 to $1000 in customs fees, which includes your materials entering Canada and returning to the U.S. The amount of customs fees depends on the type and value of the items an Exhibitor brings. For example, if an Exhibitor brings $10,000 worth of books to the show, the total customs fees would be approximately $375. The exact fee will be determined by GES prior to the show and there will be no hidden charges or surprises.

Q How much will I have to pay in customs fees?
A Once you sign up to be an ATA Exhibitor, you will receive an Exhibitor Packet from GES. The packet includes a customs form that you need to complete and fax to GES Canada. Ray Debono of GES Canada will then provide a quote that will include all customs fees for your material to enter Canada as well as return to the U.S.

Q When do I pay these fees?
A Customs fees are charged with other exhibiting-related expenses: drayage, electricity, tables, and any other charges you may incur with GES throughout the show. Payment will be handled as it has been for previous shows, but there will simply be an additional amount for customs.

Q What if I do not wish to use GES as a customs broker?
A You do not have to use GES as your customs broker, but you will more than likely incur additional charges and complications if you do not. For example, if an Exhibitor brings $10,000 worth of books to the show and sells $5,000 worth of books during the show, that Exhibitor may be required to pay $1,500 when entering Canada and $100 to return to the U.S., instead of the $375 flat fee provided by GES. When using GES, the exact fee will be determined by GES prior to the show and there will be no hidden charges or surprises.

Q What if I do not wish to use GES for shipping?
A GES can provide a customs quote with or without shipping charges. You do not have to use GES to ship your material, however, Ray Debono of GES can explain the charges and possible complications an Exhibitor can avoid by using GES for shipping.
