SUMMARY:Pricing Strategies for Translators and Interpreters
DESCRIPTION:Pricing is a controversial and complex subject. It’s one that all linguists need to think about very seriously. In order to make a good living in the profession that we love\, it’s essential to figure out how to price our services. It’s not about the price someone tells you to charge\, but rather what do you want to make and how do you get there. \nWhat you will learn\n\nHow much do you want to make?\nMoral/ethical obligations?\nBrief overview of supply\, demand and price\nThe peanuts/monkeys phenomenon\nAlternatives to very low prices for newcomers to the profession\nThe business case for no free translation tests\nSurcharges (weekend\, 24-hour turnaround\, PDF\, etc.)\nDealing with adversity\nAdjustments for inflation\n\nIn compliance with U.S. anti-trust law\, no specific price recommendations will be made during the webinar. \nAbout the Presenter\nJudy A. Jenner is a German and Spanish translator and master-level court certified interpreter in Las Vegas\, Nevada. She was born in Austria and grew up in a bilingual household in Mexico City. She speaks about marketing and entrepreneurship at conferences around the world. Judy and Dagmar host the popular translation blog\, Translation Times\, and co-authored The Entrepreneurial Linguist: The Business-School Approach to Freelance Translation\, which was released in 2010. \nJudy serves as the President of the Nevada Interpreters and Translators Association and sits on the advisory board of the University of California-San Diego Extension certificate program for Spanish translation.
