We will also explore the certification requirements established by various states and judicial authorities for written translations. \nYou will learn how to:\n\nDetermine if you can certify a translation that you’ve edited yourself.\nExplore certification options beyond ATA for U.S.-based translators.\nNavigate the process of obtaining an apostille for a certified translation.\nFind out in which cases certification statements need to be notarized.\nUnderstand the role of a notary public signing and affixing their official seal on the certification statement.\n\nAbout the Presenter\nRobert Sette\, CT has worked as a professional translator for over 30 years and holds ATA certification in Spanish\, French\, Portuguese\, and Italian into English\, in addition to working from Catalan into English. He has lived and studied languages and linguistics in Spain\, France\, and Russia. He specializes in commercial\, legal\, and technical translation. He is currently serving on ATA’s Board of Directors and is president of the Colorado Interpreters and Translators Association. SUMMARY:Pricing Primer
DESCRIPTION:Attend this webinar to unlock key strategies to enhance your bottom line through effective pricing.\nIf you run a for-profit business\, profit maximization is your primary objective. Pricing is a major driver of profitability and an important tool in every business owner’s toolkit. Larger companies can afford to maintain dedicated pricing teams that design sophisticated pricing solutions to extract more of the value their companies create. On the other hand\, small businesses often rely on simple rules of thumb and cost-driven pricing\, which hardly offer a full picture of how much to charge for one’s services. The speaker will address customer- and competition-driven pricing as well as costs that are not relevant for pricing. Of the many pricing strategies available to boost your bottom line\, he will discuss vertical and horizontal product lines (a “menu of options”) and bundling. \nIn this webinar\, you will learn how to:\n\nStart your client relationship off on the right foot.\nUnderstand the importance of pricing as a lever of value extraction and profitability.\nDetermine what you always should and absolutely shouldn’t consider when pricing your services.\nLook at every pricing scenario through the lens of the three Cs (cost\, customer\, and competition).\nDetermine what “menu of options” may best serve the different needs and budgets of your clients.\n\nAbout the Presenter\nDaniel Sebesta brings over 20 years of expertise working at the intersection of language\, business\, and technology. He has an MBA with a specialization in pricing and strategy and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists as well as a sworn translator in Czechia and Germany. In addition to his translation work\, he advises language services providers\, toolmakers\, and localization buyers on questions concerning pricing\, profitability\, and language technology. He is the administrator of ATA’s Language Technology Division.

SUMMARY:Translating Spanish Corporate Documents: 10 Common Pitfalls
DESCRIPTION:Join this webinar as we delve into the pitfalls\, nuances\, and intricacies of translating Spanish corporate documents.\nWe’ll explore common pitfalls\, shed light on the nuances of business terminology in Spanish-speaking countries\, and discuss how it relates to the terminology used in Anglo-American jurisdictions. Focusing on 10 pitfalls often encountered when translating Spanish corporate documents\, this webinar begins with a brief overview of the major features of five main forms of doing business in Spanish-speaking countries\, showing how they match up (or don’t) with sole proprietorships\, partnerships\, limited liability companies\, and corporations in Anglo-American jurisdictions. \n“The Basics” examines common terms such as sociedad\, socio\, and societario\, for which the appropriate translation is not always obvious and depends on the specific corporate form that each entity adopts. Attention then turns to exploring frequently found invented and all-too-literal translations that are generally to be avoided\, as well as reviewing false friends and common ellipses that often puzzle translators. Sections on “weird stuff” and tricky expressions address aspects of corporate documents that may prove confusing\, such as cryptic phrases and stylistic differences that\, if overlooked\, can render English translations awkward. To conclude\, we examine some of the significant variations in corporate terminology as used in the U.S. and the U.K. that may eventually prompt miscues in translation. \nIn this webinar\, you will:\n\nGain insight into the main difficulties of translating corporate documents.\nLearn the appropriate terminology for each type of corporate enterprise.\nDistinguish between invented or overly-literal translations and more appropriate ones.\nLearn about false friends\, cryptic expressions\, and stylistic variations that may pose translation problems.\n\nAbout the Presenter\nRebecca Jowers is a Spanish>English freelance legal translator based in Madrid\, Spain. She taught legal English for 20 years in the LL.M. program “Máster en Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas” at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid Law School\, having previously worked five years as an in-house legal translator for the Elzaburu intellectual property law firm.
