Gentil A. Moreno
Description
Al Moreno has been with Legal Services of New Jersey for the past 15 years. Due to his efforts, LSNJ has a language services unit to assist low-income clients in civil law cases. Mr. Moreno has an M.A. in Translation from Rutgers University and a post-graduate certificate in court interpreting from the University of California-Davis. He is also a Court Interpreter Approved by the NJ Administrative Office of the Courts. In addition to his responsibilities at LSNJ, Mr. Moreno worked with the NJ Department of Education in the advocacy for the rights of limited-English-speaking individuals. He has also taught legal translation and interpretation at Rutgers. For many years, Al has conducted LSNJ workshops such as, Tips on using Interpreters; Basic Principles For Using Interpreters. During the American Translators Association, ATA, 50th Annual Conference in 2009, he co-presented two workshops, The Legal Representation for Low Income Clients: The Role of a Community Translator, and The Role of Internships in Translation and Interpretation. Mr. Moreno is a member of the following professional associations: the American Translators Association, ATA, the National Language Service Corps, NLSC and the National Foreign Language Honor Society, Phi Sigma Iota.
