Announcing The ATA Savvy Linguist
We have published the ATA Savvy Newcomer since 2013 and ATA Next Level since 2021. Each blog has made unique and helpful contributions to our members.
Savvy Newcomer was founded to help translators avoid the “school of hard knocks” that many of us went through. It has been helpful to new and experienced translators alike as we published articles on a variety of topics. Over the years, the blog team found that newcomers to the profession, our intended audience, were not necessarily a large majority of our readers. We were reaching a worldwide community of translators and interpreters who were looking for practical solutions to solve problems they deal with on a regular basis.
Next Level was launched to expand on the work the Savvy Newcomer team had started by writing for established translators who no longer needed “how to get started” advice but still wanted ideas for growing their businesses. We’ve published articles on business practices, interviews with successful translators and interpreters, and previews of business sessions at the annual ATA conference.
Over the years, we have found that both blogs deal with similar topics and have similar audiences. This can create confusion regarding what blog to check when we need information on a particular topic.
To be more effective in our service to our ATA member translators, interpreters, and other professionals, we are now merging both blogs. This move will help our small team curate articles, choose topics based on ATA member discussions, and promote the profession.
We look forward to serving you as a single blog, the ATA Savvy Linguist.
