When the Invisible Becomes Visible: Inclusive Uses of Language in T&I

August 31, 2022

Explore the impact translators and interpreters can make by calling out diversity through language choices.

This webinar will be presented in Spanish.

What role do translators and interpreters play in supporting inclusion as part of the norm? From the overarching question of personal choice or professional responsibility to concepts, such as human rights and accessibility, to specific strategies for binary and non-binary language, this webinar will examine the “gender lens” as an approach to 21st century communication.

You will gain insight into:

  1. Binary and non-binary language, including the generic use of masculine nouns in Spanish
  2. The claims of minorities who do not feel represented in binarism
  3. The arguments for and against the stance of the Royal Spanish Language Academy
  4. Use of gender neutralization, duplication, and alternative morphosyntactic tools
  5. Resources and strategies to inform your language decisions
