ATA Client Outreach Kit
Interested in expanding your portfolio of direct clients? You’re in the right place.
The ATA Client Outreach Kit will give you the tools you need to attract direct clients by positioning yourself as a resource for translation buyers and users.
What is the Client Outreach Kit?
The core of the kit is a fully customizable PowerPoint presentation that you can use in speaking to potential clients – at chamber of commerce meetings, trade association events, professional seminars, brown-bag lunches at local law firms, or any other venue that would draw the kind of client you’re looking for.
The kit also includes a set of practical, stand-alone Skills Modules to help you make the most of the core PowerPoint presentation. Topics include writing and delivering an elevator speech; developing effective public speaking habits; getting invited to speak; writing your own introduction; and handling Q&A effectively.
If you use the ATA Client Outreach Kit effectively, you’ll score a triple win by:
- raising awareness of translation as a profession;
- helping your attendees become better-informed translation consumers; and
- promoting your own practice.
Where can I get the Client Outreach Kit?
You can get the PowerPoint presentation from this website by clicking on the Download link below. You can review and download the individual Skills Modules here.
How much does the kit cost?
The Client Outreach Kit was developed as a member benefit and is free of charge to ATA members.
What’s the catch?
Using the kit effectively may require you to rework your standard marketing tools – and even change your thinking a bit. If your résumé is designed primarily for working with agencies, it probably contains information on your CAT tools, daily capacity, education, and references from other agencies. Most of this will be of no interest to direct clients, who are focused simply on selling their products and services successfully: what they want to know is how you can help them do that.
To adapt your marketing materials to a direct clientele, you’ll need to concentrate less on how you do your work, and more on what you can do for your customers — the translator as solution provider. This keeps your message informative and upbeat, and highlights your own expertise. The Skills Modules can help.
How can I trade notes with other translators about this?
The Client Outreach Kit was developed by a team of volunteers and is a work in progress. Your feedback – questions, challenges, new ideas, success stories – is very welcome and will help us improve, expand and update the PowerPoint presentation and the supporting materials. And your lessons learned will help your colleagues fine-tune their own outreach efforts. Visit our Feedback page and use the discussion forum to ask questions, make suggestions and share insights.
