I was born in Havana, Cuba, but have called the United States home since immigrating as a young child, proudly becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1972. Growing up bilingual, I consider both Spanish and English native languages. Certified by the American Translators Association to translate from Spanish into English, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Certificate in Translation Studies from Florida International University, as well as an Advanced Diploma in Spanish granted through the Ministry of Education and Culture in Madrid, Spain.

My bilingual, bicultural background led me to a career as a writer, editor, and translator covering Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic community of which I am a part. I have worked professionally in both languages throughout my career, including for Spain’s news agency EFE as a translator and editor, as well as at Televisa and at AARP, where I served as Director of Translation Services and Editor-in-Chief of its Spanish-language website for 15 years.

As a translator with more than 20 years’ experience, I offer accurate, certified translations into both English and Spanish across a wide range of topics, but specialize in translating academic diplomas, transcripts and related documents, as well as identification and legal documents that are accepted by U.S. universities, credential evaluation agencies, U.S. courts, and immigration and government authorities.

My fee—which always includes a certificate of accuracy and the ATA seal—is based on the number of words in the source document to be translated, as well as on the difficulty or complexity of the project, the desired turnaround, and whether notarization or other services are required.
