Dana L. Scruggs
Description
I have many years of experience translating patents for companies such as ZF Friedrichshafen AG, Robert Bosch GmbH, HUBER SE, KLS Martin, USound GmbH, Maschinenfabrik Rieter AG, and CLAAS KGaA mbH through IP law firms and translation agencies. I particularly enjoy working directly with patent attorneys and, through them, their German, Swiss, and Austrian clients, as this enables me to confirm technical terminology specific to the client’s innovations, incorporate the client's feedback into my future work, and optimize the patent translations that I deliver to them. I build a terminology database for each client and use the vetted terminology consistently in every patent I translate for the client. In sum, the client receives high-quality patent translations tailored to their needs.
I spend a lot of time researching proper terminology and studying subject matter when translating a patent. I use the Espacenet patent database to research technical terms in German and read their English counterparts in the English abstracts, to research prior art, and to study related patents in German and English.
I have a working relationship with an excellent proofreader. I use her services on particularly difficult, technical, and/or lengthy patent translations, and whenever the client specifically requests that I have my work proofread.
I have a bank account in Germany and am able to receive payment directly within Europe, enabling clients in Europe to avoid wire transfer fees and exchange rate disadvantages.
