Dee Shields
Description
I have an MA in Danish-English translation and interpreting from the Copenhagen Business School. I was officially accredited by the Danish government ("state-authorized") until the authorization system was discontinued in 2016. I also have a BA (Liberal Arts, self-designed language core) from Pennsylvania State University. Member of AIIC.
I lived in Copenhagen, Denmark, for 38 years but am now located in Chicago. I have been in the T&I business since 1987. I translate only into English, not into Danish, but I interpret in both directions.
I have worked as a conference interpreter and in the Danish courts (also the High Court), as well as served a liason interpreter at hospitals, detention centers and other venues. I have provided interpreting at depositions, annual company meetings, courses, EU works council meetings and many other types of meetings, etc. in Denmark and abroad. I prefer on-site interpreting, but have also provided remote interpreting, although I do not work from home. Danish is a small language market, so specialization to any great degree was not an option, but I especially enjoy medical and technical subjects, and I am expert at learning about a field and finding the terminology and usage necessary to perform the work -- and, most importantly, I know when to ask questions so I can produce the best work possible.
