I am the founding Director of the Center for Translation Studies and the M.A. in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign (2008-2015). Currently, I am a faculty member in the New York University M.S. in Translation program and work as a translator (Portuguese and Spanish into English) in a variety of special domains, including literary, technical, and scholarly texts. I am a literary translator of works by Latin American and Lusophone authors from Portuguese and Spanish into English. I have published extensively on Latin American literature & culture, translation pedagogy, and on the translation of Latin American literature, focusing on the role of the translator as cultural agent.
