2. ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

1971-1985 Deutsche Schule zu Porto (German School), completing the primary and secondary levels.

1986 Faculty of Architecture of the University of Oporto, having completed the 2nd year.

1988-1991 Instituto Superior de Assistentes e Interpretes (ISAI - Institute of Interpreters and Assistants), having completed the university course in translation/interpreting, specialisation in German and English with an average grade of 15.

1988-1990 Course of Spanish language and culture at the Spanish Institute of Oporto, having obtained the Diploma Superior de Espanhol como Língua Estrangeira (Diploma of Spanish as a foreign language).

1990 Japanese language course at the Moa Foundation in Oporto.

1991 Course in computer applications (Windows, Word and Excel) at Time-Sharing.

Feb. 1994 completed the post-graduate course of "Translation Methodology" managed by the National Institute of Administration and designed by E.S.I.T. - École Supérieure d'Interprétes et Traducteures (Institute of Interpreters and Translators).

June 1994 attended the First Seminar of Evaluation of Quality and Translation Revision, organised by the National Institute of Administration in co-operation with the Portuguese Association of Translators.

June 1996 participated in the Conference on “Translation in Portugal: Training and Profession” organised by GRIF - Linguistic and Educational Co-operation, Cultural Services of the Embassy of France and by the Institute of Castelo Branco (3 and 4 June 1996).

1997 Degree in Translation Science and Comparative Culture from Instituto Superior de Línguas e Administração (ISLA - Institute of Languages and Administration).

Feb. 2001 participated in the “Seminario de Traducción Financera” at the CEES (Madrid) and in March 2001 attended the “III Jornadas de Traducción e Interpretación”, also at the CEES.

June 2001 attended a Trados 5.5. training course in Madrid, where she acquired a more expert knowledge of the new version’s features and capabilities.

Sept. 2001 participated at the International Translation Congress at Rennes University.

May 2004 attended a 6.5 Trados training course.

Speaks and writes English, French, German and Spanish fluently.

Travelled to the United States, England, France, Germany and Spain with the purpose of improving the above-mentioned languages.

3. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

1989-1993 Co-operated as translator-interpreter in several international trade fairs in Oporto and Lisbon and, at frequent intervals with Mercedes-Benz Portugal.

1984-2004 Translations carried out for IED-Instituto de Estudos para o Desenvolvimento (Institute for Development Studies), Artisoft-Informática Lda., Exposiones Culturales S.L., University of Oporto, Municipality of Oporto; private companies (Huf International, Wirsbo, Arev, Apdl, Zeiss, Sag, Hoefler, Allweiler, William Cook Europe A/S (medical equipment), Cook Ireland (medical equipament), Wilson-Cook Medical (medical equipment), Guidant (medical equipment), Digene (medical equipment) Pal Medical (blood filters and associated products), Medtronic (medical equipment), Aesculap (medical equipment), Sony, Bobst, Bmw, Uponor, etc.; national and international translation agencies, namely Cogen CPL (Belgium), Tradex GmbH (Germany), LocSoft (Germany), DaSilva (Germany), Tradex (France), Apostroph (Switzerland), Star (Switzerland/Germany), Star SA (Switzerland), UGZ (Switzerland), Instituto de Estudos Económicos de Macau (Macau), Phala, STT (Portugal) and EC institutions, namely the European Parliament, the Economic and Social Committee and the ECB.

1996-1998 Teacher of German-Portuguese Translation to 2nd and 3rd year students of translation and Interpreting at ISAI.

1997 Teacher of consecutive interpreting in German at ISAI.

1997-2002 Teaching translation from German to Portuguese, and vice versa, of specific subjects (mechanics, finance, insurance, banking, medicine), as well as Terminology and Localisation to 4th year students of the Translation Science and comparative culture course of ISLA.

In September 1999 was selected to joint the Translation Team of the European Central Bank, working nowadays with this institution on a free-lance basis.

In October 2000 signed a translation service’s contract with the European Parliament.

March 2001 was invited to replace the Portuguese translator of the European Central Bank during her vacations, starting for one week in May 2001. Since then has worked several times for the ECB as consultant. In August 2004 signed a framework contract with the ECB.

Besides the standard IT equipment, uses the Trados Freelance Edition 7 (Workbench, MultiTerm, Winalign) translation tools and Déjà Vue.

Since 1998 has started a co-operation with another native-speaker translators, in order to assure diversified language combinations, in particular English, German, Spanish, Italian, Swedish and Finnish into Portuguese, and vice versa to her clients.

In 1999 started providing interpreting services to and from English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Turkish, Mandarin, etc. co-operating with highly skilled and qualified interpreters.
