Description
My translation experience mainly has been in the field of engineering/scientific academic paper translation and editing (100+ academic papers for 9 years). Through ATA directory listing, I have been contacted and contracted by several translation companies and worked on engineering manual and documentation, marketing brochure, US state department brochure and handouts, book chapter, and so on.
I have translated two engineering books recently: “Adaptive Interference Mitigation in GNSS” (published by Springer in 2017/2018; http://www.springer.com/us/book/9789811055706#aboutBook) and “Principles and Applications of RELAX: a Robust and Universal Estimator” (will be published by Springer in 2018/2019). I am highly interested in translating engineering/scientific books.
I am a speaker at the American Translators Association’s 59th Annual Conference, 2018 and the title of my talk is “A Comparative Study on the Differences Between English and Chinese Writing Discourse in the Engineering Field”.
I have served as a medical interpreter (both face-to-face and over-the-phone) for more than 10 years. Overall, I have accumulated 2000+ hours in this domain and earned multiple training certificates.
I am willing to try other forms of translation and interpreter services and gain some diversified experiences. For example, I started to have some transcription and audio/video assignments.
I hold a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Duke University. I have more than 15 years of experiences as full-time research scientist, and six years of experiences as full-time development engineer. These experiences are mainly in the engineering and biomedical fields, such as systems engineering, biomedical device and signal processing, smart devices (smart phones, tablets and PCs), wireless communication, Augmented/Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence and so on.
I have worked for Duke University Medical Center; Rockwell/Teledyne Scientific Corporate research center; Information Science Institute, Viterbi School of Engineering, University of Southern California; Charles River Analytics and Lenovo Corporate research center.
I have been serving as a visiting faculty for an online university (teach computer science and network security classes) for 10+ years, and I am a master inventor for my full-time job and hold 63 US scientific and engineering patents.
In recent years, I have focused my research in the field of designing and developing cognitively and linguistically motivated computational paradigms. I also have started worked with other ATA experts to define and benchmark "work mind" of language professionals: problem-solving, working with digital tools, creativity, etc.
