Mirna Soares Andrade
Description
Mirna is a native speaker of Portuguese who learned English at the age of five while living in the United States. Later she went on to study French and Spanish, perfecting the latter during a three-month stay in Argentina.
She holds a Master's Degree in Interpreter Studies from the University of Geneva and a Master’s Degree in Language Studies from PUC-Rio and was the recipient of several grants and scholarships for academic achievement and research in Brazil and abroad.
Translating and interpreting became a professional activity in 1995, when she started working for NGOs and multinational companies. Throughout her career, she acquired knowledge and experience in areas as varied as subtitling and simultaneous interpreting. Years later, she became an American Translators Association-Certified Translator from English into Portuguese and from Portuguese into English. In the past ten years, Mirna has specialized in translation and interpretation for intergovernmental bodies and multilateral entities, such as the OAS, PAHO, the IDB, the World Bank, the IMF and others.
Mirna is currently living in Washington, D.C. where she is an independent interpreter and translator working with International Organizations and the private sector.
