Patricia Pringle
Description
Japanese to English translation and editing of client facing for-publication texts, specializing in press releases, public service announcements, academic papers, and employee training materials. I specialize in editing Japanese-to-English translations of text for publication. Naturally this work requires extreme attention to detail and accuracy. However, a good translation fits the overall purpose of the text. It must fit the “big picture” goals of corporations and authors while retaining faithfulness to the language and intention of the source. My strategy is to take a birds-eye view of the overall objectives and persuasive appeal to provide an integrated, readable Japanese to English translation. I recently edited the translation of "美しい日本語の風景" by 中西進. (In English, "The Japanese Linguistic Landscape: Reflections on Quintissential Words" by Nakanishi Susumu). Professor Nakanishi is the literary scholar best known for selecting "令和” (Reiwa) as the era name for the reign of Emperor Naruhito. Other specialties: Post-editing of for-publication texts when speed, accuracy and style count. SDL Post-editing Certified Level 1.
