Lived in Indonesia from 1972-1981, 1988-1989, 2008-2009, 2017-2018, and 2018-present. A number of other visits, also.
Taught Indonesian at The Language Centre in Sydney, Australia in 1981 and at Berlitz in Dallas, Texas in 1987.
Co-authored a book on the history of Javanese culture (1973-1974) and a specialized guide book to Java (1989).
In 2008-2009, volunteered with international human rights organization Peace Brigades International, to promote non-violent resolution of conflicts and conduct peace education. In 2017-2018, volunteered with Indonesian human rights and community development NGO, Yayasan SATUNAMA. Special interest in human rights issues.

Currently in the US, managing the editing process for an online vocabulary-building tool that I created. It is designed to raise the fluency of students of the Indonesian language from intermediate-advanced to professional level.
