Lived in Indonesia from 1972-1981, 1988-1989, 2008-2009, 2017-2018, and 2018-present. A number of other visits, also.

Taught Indonesian at The Language Centre in Sydney, Australia in 1981 and at Berlitz in Dallas, Texas in 1987.

Co-authored a book on the history of Javanese culture (1973-1974) and a specialized guide book to Java (1989).

In 2008-2009, volunteered with international human rights organization Peace Brigades International, to promote non-violent resolution of conflicts and conduct peace education. In 2017-2018, volunteered with Indonesian human rights and community development NGO, Yayasan SATUNAMA. Special interest in human rights issues.

Interpreting experience in social services and other issues. Escort officer on US State Department anti-terrorism training program for Indonesian bomb squad technicians.

Currently in the US, managing the editing process for an online vocabulary-building tool that I created. It is designed to raise the fluency of students of the Indonesian language from intermediate-advanced to professional level.

Also working on an online vocabulary-building tool for learners of Javanese.
