Stephen Volante, CT

Stephen Volante, CT

Description

I am a productive and conscientious Spanish and French to English translator with 15 years of experience. I have worked as a freelancer with the US National Institutes of Health since 2015, translating patient records, medical literature, and researcher credentials; and specializing in pathology, radiology, oncology, and genetic testing reports. From 2009-2011, I worked at the Boston offices of the NGO Partners In Health (PIH), supporting a team of 200 colleagues conducting a study of tuberculosis transmission and drug resistance in Lima, Peru.

Clients know I provide clear, stylistically appropriate translations for their target audiences and that I review my work rigorously for accuracy, clarity, and conciseness. I specialize in public health, life sciences, energy (oil, gas, renewable sources), agriculture, economic development, finance, economic development, and human rights. I work weekdays at the Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR) at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, generally 8-4. My role at CBAR focuses on regulatory compliance and editing texts that colleagues write.

The Director of the Massachusetts Supranational TB Reference Laboratory, a consultant to Partners In Health, observed: Over the past 15 years, I have been involved in numerous international projects in more than 10 countries and worked with many translators and interpreters. My experience has given me a better understanding of the importance of quality translation and interpreting. Stephen’s linguistic ability, attention to detail, and professionalism made him an excellent facilitator of my communications with the Lima team. I would welcome the opportunity to work with Stephen again.

The in-house translator at the National Institutes of Health who has reviewed over 125 of my translations wrote: I have had the pleasure to review Stephen's work. He is a careful, skillful and knowledgeable translator, highly specialized in scientific documents. Stephen has the capacity to defend his choices in a very professional manner. He is also open to receive feedback and flexible to accomodate his client's preferences.
