Contest Deadline

The deadline for submissions is July 19, 2021. The winner will be contacted no later than August 20, 2021.

Photo and Contest Guidelines

The ATA School Outreach Contest winner is selected based on the quality of their photo and the description of their ATA School Outreach presentation experience. The contest recognizes a presenter who engages their audience with a great presentation and wows us with a photo that captures the experience!

Wondering how to capture a contest-worthy photo of your ATA School Outreach presentation? Whether you're presenting in person or virtually, we're here to help. See below for some tips, and feel free to contact us with any questions.

Note: the contest entry form requires your signature to confirm that you have received all necessary permissions to distribute your photo. Please discuss the photo and contest with the teacher and presentation participants as necessary before your presentation.

Tips for Taking a Winning Shot

  • The ideal photograph captures the fun of translation and interpreting, your passion for the profession, and the interest and engagement of your audience.

  • The photo may be reprinted in The ATA Chronicle and other ATA promotional materials, so aim for a clear, high-quality shot.

  • Make sure the photo clearly shows that you're talking about translation and/or interpreting. This could include signs, books, craft activities, or other props and decorations.

  • Include yourself and one or more students in the photo. If confidentiality concerns prevent you from showing students' faces, you could try a photo from the back of the classroom that shows you speaking to the group.

  • For screenshots of virtual presentations, ask all attendees to look into their camera lens and pose for the photo.

  • Plan the photo ahead of time: who will take it (the teacher, one of the students, or someone else), and when.

  • Take a few shots so that you have a variety of options to choose from. Remember that you can submit multiple photos with your entry if you can't decide which one you like best!
