Kelly Burt-Candelaria
Kelly is a California-based Swedish and German to English translator who also specializes in localizing English-language content from other variants into Australian English. She started translating full-time after graduating from UNSW in Sydney with a double MA in interpreting and translation and applied linguistics. She is ATA-certified in German and Swedish to English translation. Her primary working areas are film and TV, food and culinary texts, and travel and tourism.
Helen Eby
Helen Eby is certified by ATA as a translator (English<>Spanish) and by the State of Washington as a court interpreter (Spanish). She has been active in ATA in various roles and is currently the Chair of the Business Practices Education Committee and is a Director on the ATA Board. She has been a translator for over 40 years and has learned both through continuing education and the school of hard knocks. Through this blog, she hopes to promote discussion of topics that will help all translators and interpreters grow in their business practices and their profession.
Sarah Symons Glegorio
Sarah Symons Glegorio is an ATA certified Spanish to English and Portuguese to English translator specializing in business, financial, legal, and technical texts. She has been a member of the ATA Business Practices Committee since 2019 and currently serves as a blog editor. She has also served as Treasurer of the Oregon Society of Translators and Interpreters (OSTI) from 2017–2021 and 2025–2026. She has been working in language services full time since 2015 and part time since 2005. Prior to becoming a full time linguist, she worked in the real estate, finance, and education sectors.
Danielle Maxson
Danielle Maxson has been translating since 2009 and specializes in medical translation with a focus on patient records. She is an ATA-certified Portuguese to English and Spanish to English translator and the former chair of ATA’s Business Practices Education Committee. Tricia Perry
Tricia Perry is a medical translator and editor working from Spanish and Portuguese into English. She holds a BA in Spanish and Anthropology from Smith College and an MA in Media Studies from the New School. She earned a Certificate in Translation Studies from the University of Chicago Graham School, and is ATA certified for Spanish into English. Based in New York, Tricia lived and studied in Costa Rica and did research on HIV/AIDS-related discrimination in Brazil on a Fulbright grant.
Hannah Varadi
Hannah Varadi is a Spanish>English (ATA-certified) and French>English translator, interpreter, and project manager specializing in medical and legal content. She has experience as both an in-house language project manager and a freelance linguist, giving her a dual perspective on this industry’s challenges and rewards from both sides of the aisle. Hannah graduated from a K-12 Spanish immersion program in Indianapolis and earned a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature with a concentration in literary translation from Oberlin College.
