Freelancer Retirement Planning: U.S. Accounts and Exit Tips

September 25 / 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

Wondering how to retire as a self-employed freelancer with a global life? This webinar gives you a clear roadmap to U.S. retirement planning, savings strategies, and exit tax considerations tailored to translators, interpreters, and digital nomads.

Many freelance translators and interpreters in the U.S. face a daunting question: how to prepare for retirement when your income fluctuates, you’re self-employed, and you may live or move across borders? This webinar offers a clear, practical roadmap to understand and take advantage of the retirement options available in the U.S., including 401(k), Solo 401(k), Roth IRA, SEP IRA, and brokerage accounts. We’ll explore how to structure your savings by tax treatment (pre-tax, post-tax, taxable) and how to invest based on your risk profile, time horizon, and values.

This webinar will also address important exit considerations, including what happens to your retirement accounts and taxes if you move abroad or give up your green card or U.S. citizenship. We’ll discuss how the exit tax works and how to prepare for it in advance.

The webinar is designed to be jargon-free and actionable, whether you’re just starting to save or optimizing what you’ve already built. Freelancers, especially those who are dual nationals or plan to live in more than one country, will walk away with clarity and confidence to make informed financial decisions.

By attending this webinar, you will:

  1. Understand the key differences between traditional and Roth retirement accounts.
  2. Learn how to prioritize account types based on taxes, liquidity, and retirement goals for freelancers and business owners.
  3. Discover the pros and cons of investment strategies for retirement accounts.
  4. Gain awareness of U.S. exit tax rules and how they could impact retirement assets.
  5. Walk away with a practical, simple framework to structure your retirement planning.
