Inside Winemaking: Crafting Wine, Crafting Words

March 20 / 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

Elevate your linguistic toolkit and uncork new career possibilities by transforming your understanding of wine.

For language professionals like you, the world is an endless source of fascinating fields waiting to be explored. But what if we told you there’s a sector with a 7,000-year history, rich in cultural significance, and brimming with unique linguistic challenges and lucrative opportunities? Welcome to the intricate realm of winemaking.

Wine is far more than a beverage; it is a complex narrative woven from tradition, artistry, and terroir. For translators and interpreters, this specialization presents a unique linguistic landscape. Forget simple word-for-word translations when you encounter terms like “cap management,” “lees stirring,” or “malolactic fermentation.” These demand deep subject-matter expertise to render with precision and cultural nuance in any target language.

This webinar is your essential guide. We will demystify the entire production process of still red, rosé, and white wines, from the initial grape to the final pour. You will gain the critical background knowledge necessary to confidently navigate the specialized language of the global wine market. Understanding vinification steps, the rationale behind stylistic choices, and the precise vocabulary at each stage will empower you to avoid common translation pitfalls and make truly informed lexical decisions.

The international wine industry is a dynamic and expanding market offering abundant opportunities, from technical manuals and regulatory documents to scientific articles, vibrant marketing materials, social media posts, evocative labels, detailed tasting notes, insightful reviews, and engaging tourism content. As the industry continually evolves with trends like natural wines, low/no-alcohol options, biodynamic and organic practices, and vegan-friendly approaches, the demand for culturally and technically accurate translation only grows. This ensures a professionally rewarding and creatively engaging field where your expertise and storytelling abilities truly shine.

By attending this webinar, you will:

  1. Understand the step-by-step process of wine production and how each stage shapes a wine’s final style.
  2. Learn essential industry terminology to confidently navigate the specialized language of winemaking.
  3. Be able to translate complex wine articles, reviews, tasting notes, and technical datasheets with clarity.
  4. Explore new translation opportunities in emerging wine sectors such as low or no alcohol, natural, biodynamic, and vegan-friendly wines.
  5. Apply practical tips for selecting and enjoying wine to improve both purchasing decisions and tasting experiences.
